I participated in the color throw down challenge this week. It happened to be their big 5-0-0. Wow! That's a lot of challenges. I loved the colors and tried to make a card that highlighted them.
The challenge can be found here.
I used Honey Bees Spring Blossoms stamps and dies for the flowers. Gina K for the sentiment stamp. The blossoms were stamped with Simon Says Stamp Clear ink and embossed with Nuvo glitter gold embossing powder.
The flowers were watercolored using Tim Holtz distress ink (Spun Sugar and Blueprint Sketch) and to match the sentiment color I used TH Distress Oxide Blueprint Sketch. I added a little Spun Sugar to the background as well, to add some interest.
I cut the frames from a set of stitched rectangle dies in my stash and popped it up on foam tape. I layered the blooms inside and added the one to the frame.
I really do enjoy these color challenges. I have a lot of coloring media and this gets me to focus on that rather than the kit or the stamp (even though the stamp takes center stage on this card!)
I started with the colors. I used my new Gina K minis with Ink blenders on Bristol smooth card stock. So far I am happy with the purchase of these inks. I blended and let the colors rule. I added a Prima stamp from their Bloom Collection - it's pretty old and pulled from my stash, using Simon's Intense Black Ink. I used one of the dies from the Tonic Kit - pulling the ends in to give the sentiment more interest. Again I used the Ton for the sentiment - I am addicted to that stamp! Added some Nuvo drops and I am done.
Please go to Color Throw Down to play along with the challenge. This card is definitely a departure from my normal style but I love it. It really stretches you!
I am just LOVING these challenges. This week is Nightmare Before Christmas what a fun movie for a challenge. I went for a 5x7 card for this one so I would have lots of room to play. I used Bazzill paper, Tim Holtz stamps (swirls and lines on the tree) Clear embossing powder (it has a little black in it too that makes it silvery) I used my new dimensional pearls on the tree and Tim Holtz ink for some shading. Also misc. brads etc for the tree. The inside of the tree is 4 layers of UTEE with the swirl stamp pressed in it. Well here is the card:
